DIVE TRAINING
If there is magic on this planet, it is contained in water …

Normalair Underwater Club ( NUC ) is a social diving club. We have no commercial involvements. As such we are involved in recreational scuba dive training because we passionately believe that everyone should be diving, for their own, and the planet’s, good!
The recreational scuba diving courses presented by NUC are sanctioned by CMAS ( Confederation Mondiale des Activites Subaquatiques, or the World Underwater Federation ). As such your diving qualification will be recognized, and respected, throughout the diving world.
The basic philosophy behind CMAS training is to prepare the novice to enter the diving environment with the maximum amount of confidence. As such the CMAS training is often seen as being more rigorous when compared with some of the other dive training franchises. This includes the completion of a diving medical examination by a registered Diving Medical Officer ( DMO ).
Normalair currently has 5 CMAS registered instructors. Since we try to keep the number of students on course to a maximum of 10, this means that students get plenty of individual attention during their training. The teaching modules are presented by all the instructors so as to give the students the benefit of their varied diving experiences.
The current NUC instructors are:
Mark Botha is a medical doctor, who has been diving since his teens. He is a member of the Executive Committee of the South Africa Undersea and Hyperbaric Medicine Association, Medical Director of the Milpark Hyperbaric Medical Unit, a registered DMO, and the current Training Officer, and Medical/Safety Officer, for NUC. His interests include underwater photography and video.
Herman Steyn has been diving for many years. Our organizing guru, he looks after the initial registration of students and the financial matters pertaining to the courses. He is presently both Financial Officer, and Clubhouse Manager, for NUC.
Robert Nortje has been involved in student training for longer than any of the other instructors. His enthusiasm for diving is obvious to anyone attending his lectures. He is presently Vice Chairman, and Equipment Officer, for NUC. His diving interests include marine science.
Wolle Wolmarans has been diving ever since Moses played fly-half for Egypt. He has been involved in most aspects of recreational diving over the years. He is often the instructor who takes over the problem students in the practical sessions.
Hardy Johnson is the newest of the NUC instructors. He has also been involved, as has Robert, with training of students for Wits Underwater Club. His interests include technical diving.
The CMAS Courses currently offered at NUC include;
